BY JOHN MILES
BASKETBALL SECTION
The roots of the Basketball section are the Boys and Girls High School Basketball histories created for the Celebration Text. The text is the basic content for the high school Boys and Girls sections. All-time records were developed for both girls’ and boys’ basketball. This database is the main source for basketball records for the Activities Association teams. It is utilized by schools, media entities, and interested individuals. The records sections will be controlled and will require subscriptions to access the materials. The Latest News section will provide weekly updates during seasons, mid-December to the end of March. We concentrate on individuals that are creating all- time records.
The histories were the content basis for the SDPB-TV documentaries, Play Like A Girl and Kings of the Court. Kings won a regional Emmy. Play Like A Girl should have been nominated for one. We have also developed the Reconciliation and Roundball video that deals with the development of Native American basketball in S. Dakota and the struggle by the parochial schools to be included in the Athletic/Activities Association. This content will be one of the sources for the development of the Native American Basketball section. Wade Davies’ text, Native Hoops will also be the source for this section. We have created content; narratives and videos related to the participants the Native American basketball history found in our region. This area will develop content related to the Native Hoops text. A video documentary is being developed.
