Freddie Knife
Freddie Knife was one of the all time great basketball players in South Dakota High School Boys Basketball history. Freddie led the Cheyenne Braves to the 1958 State “B” Championships. Cheyenne lost to Corona, 56-53 in the State “B” semi-finals, ending the season with a 33-1 record. In 1959 the Cheyenne Braves won the State Class “B” Title, defeating DeSmet, 63-47 in the championship game. The Braves finished the season with a 30-3 record.
Ironically, there are no individual game action photographs of Freddie Knife available at the present time. There are no films of the 1958 and 1959 Class B Tournments available. South Dakota Public Broadcasting, during the creation of the content for the documentary, Kings of The Court, interviewed South Dakota coaches and sports historians. The following video includes descriptions of Freddie Knife, the basketball legend, over fifty years after his legendary performances.
