KENT HYDE
6’6″, Kent Hyde (18.1 ppg.) was member of the 1953 Class “B” State Champions, Onida. Other great players were G, Ronnie Lawrence (9.9 ppg.) and F, Jim Sutton (22.2 ppg.). Onida had a 25-5 record in 1951-52 and a 28-3 record in 1952-53.
At the start of the 1953-54 seasson Kent was the only returning starter from the State Championship team, and a “marked man”.
During the 1953-54 basketball season Kent Hyde averaged 50.4 points per game. At the time an all time, National, high school record, and still currently fourth, all time in the National Boys Basketball records.

During the season Hyde scored 60 pts., twice; 63 pts, vs. Agar (83-80); 60 pts. vs. Cheyenne (84-88).
During the 1954 District 7 tournament, on the same day, Onida defeated Gettysburg 85-80 in the semi-final game, and defeated Agar, 85-82 in the championship game. Hyde scored 47 pts in the semi-final game against Gettysburg, and 66 points in the championship game against Agar. Hyde scored 113 pts. in the two games that day. Onida lost to Selby 77-61 in the region finals.
