The Elkton crowd was electric. They gave the Elks a standing ovation when they took the court and cheered them every time they came out of a timeout. Every play was applauded, every effort was rewarded, but that opening tip was special. The roar was deafening. It was as if they were making up for all of those years and if one moment could erase all those frustrations, this was it.

Some things are worth the wait.

Elkton was the only small school to win a championship in the single-class system. What followed was decades of disappointment, of good but not good enough, of great, but someone else being better.

BELIEVE: is a basketball story. It is the South Dakota version of Hoosiers except this story is true. But more than that, it’s a story of fathers and sons, it’s a story of friends, of teammates, and the reason you laced up your shoes.

It is small town South Dakota, the whole town cheering from the stands, and hanging on every free throw. It is the State “B” Tournament, matching t-shirts, being on TV, the Midland Tumblers, hoisting a trophy, and welcome home celebrations afterwards.

Told from the eyes of those that endured the curse and were finally able to break it. It takes you inside the locker room and the huddle. It puts you on the sideline and at practice, and in the stands at gametime. You will know their pain, feel their elation, and share their doubts and determination.
